Dr Nazakat Merchant, Neonatologist, Watford General Hospital

Dr Nazakat Merchant
Neonatologist, Watford General Hospital

Consultant Neonatologist at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust since 2014 and an honorary S Lecturer at Centre for the Developing Brain, King’s College London.
Her main interests are neonatal neurodevelopment, neonatal resuscitation and simulation and clinical research studies. She currently leads the follow up of High Risk Neonates at West Herts. She is also a medical and course director for UK resuscitation neonatal life support courses.

She initially completed her medical and paediatric training in Mumbai, India and retrained in the UK in Paediatrics followed by Subspeciality Grid training in Neonatology in London, UK. She became interested in neonatal research, neurology and clinical trials and completed a Certificate in Human Pharmacology from Royal College of Physicians, UK and MD (Research) degree from Imperial College London with her dissertation on ‘Pharmacokinetics of Melatonin as a Neuroprotectant in Preterm Infants’. She was appointed as an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and later at King’s College London and worked at the Centre for the Developing Brain with Professors David Edwards and Denis Azzopardi and been research active with MRC clinical trials such as MIND, MINT, TOBY Xenon and recently been the Principal Investigator for Baby OSCAR trial at Watford.

Dr Jo McPartland
Consultant Paedatric and Perinatal Pathologist

Jo McPartland has been a Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologist at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital since 2007. Alder Hey provides a perinatal autopsy and placental histopathology service to obstetric units across the North West of England, Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.

Dr Mudher Al-Adnani
Consultant Paedatric and Perinatal Pathologist

Mudher Al-Adnani graduated From Aberdeen University. Started medical career as a paediatrician, then moved to pathology training with an aim to specialise in paediatric/perinatal pathology. Trained in London between UCLH, Great Ormond Street, and The Royal London Hospital. After finishing training, started the first consultant job in Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Moved back to London to take current post at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in 2013. Main areas of interest: perinatal autopsies, placental pathology and paediatric GI pathology.

Dr Tony Williams
Consultant Histopathologist

Tony Williams is a consultant histopathologist, working at Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospitals and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals.

Dr Baljeet Kaur
Consultant Histopathologist

Dr Baljeet Kaur is a consultant histopathologist and an international expert on trophoblastic diseases and tumours. She is lead for Gynae-pathology services for Imperial College and also lead regiona l/ national Histopathologist for Trophoblastic disease unit and Malignant Ovarian Germ Cell Tumour service (MOGCT) at the Charing Cross Hospital). She has been an invited speaker at various national and international meetings and is an author on numerous scientific papers and latest WHO blue book (20202) chapter on Trophoblastic tumours. She is the key pathologist in ISSTD (International Society for the Study of Trophoblastic Diseases), EOTTD (European Organisation for Treatment of Trophoblastic Disease) and European network for rare adult solid Cancer (EURACAN). Baljeet has a large national and international referral practice and receives over 600 consult cases for her expert opinion.
