The British Gynaecological Cancer Society aims:  'To advance the science and art of gynaecological oncology for the benefit of the public.'  It does this largely by organising meetings which provide a forum for members to hear expert presentations on aspects of gynaecological cancers, present their own research findings and enter into discussions with others working in this field.

The BGCS is also to be seen as an expert group capable of discussing and formulating policy on gynaecological cancer research and treatment. One recent manifestation of this role was the joint working group set up between the BGCS and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists to produce a response to the Government's 'Policy Framework for Commissioning Cancer Services.'
